Did God Really Save the British Army? - MTC2548

It is all too often said that there are no miracles performed these days. Well, I'd like to challenge this idea with the story of the Angels of Mons in Belgium. Welcome to Miracles in the 21st Century. I'm Dr. John Ashton. The story that I'm about to relate actually took place in the First World War, which of course was in the 20th century. And quite early on in the war, the German forces were advancing into Belgium. The British Army, or part of the British Army, was there defending the area, and they were facing now a much larger German army. And the War correspondents at the time thought that it was inevitable that the British Army would be wiped out, would be annihilated. As a matter of fact, some of the reporters sent back telegrams to that effect, that the British Army had been annihilated at Mons. So what had happened was the— there was a call went out across the British nation for a national day of prayer. People went to churches, people prayed in their homes, people prayed earnestly that the British Army would be saved from annihilation. And the next day, on the 23rd of August, as the German Army now was closing in and the battle had begun, the German Army actually began retreating. And this enabled the British forces to be able to escape and to get away. And a number of German soldiers were captured during the battle that ensured. And they spoke about how they saw the overwhelming forces, that there was a— they saw a massive army coming towards them, and that's why they retreated. And the British soldiers who saw this happen was described as the— that there were angels there appearing. A massive force of angels seemed to be there guarding the British Army. And that led to the safe retreat of the British Army. There are many accounts, eyewitness accounts from the actual soldiers of the amazing event and the amazing retreat that the German army fled to get away, that saved the British army, which to me is an obvious answer to prayer. That day of prayer when most of the people in Britain join and praying to God, the intervening God of the Bible, to save the British army at that time. I believe that again, these— this account, again with other public Accounts of where public prayer has led to public miracles, uh, provides just more evidence that we pray to an intervening God, the amazing God that is described in the Bible.
