SPEAKER A It's all too often said that there are no miracles performed these days. Well, I'd like to challenge that with my story, The Police Out of Nowhere. Welcome to Miracles in the 21st Century. I'm David McClintock. I had the privilege of being the principal of Mount Diamond Adventist High School in the mid-1980s, and every registration day we would collect our school fees in cash. The first year we had about 40,000 kina, which represents about 80,000 Australian dollars today, and I simply took that in my car to the bank without giving it a lot of thought. But the second year, we'd heard whispers that in fact people were fairly keen to take that money from us before we got to the bank. So I talked to the bank manager at Baroko and we arranged to bring the school fees in on the Sunday night. That year we had about 60,000 kina, about $120,000 Australian dollars. And so I loaded up the truck, 8-ton truck, with about 30 big Year 10 boys as our bodyguard, and we set off on the Sunday night, safely arrived at the bank. Unloaded the money and returned home and were very grateful God had protected. Our third year, we thought, well, that worked really well last year, we'll try that again. This time we had probably 70,000 kina, $140,000 Australian dollars in cash. Same 8-ton truck, 30-year-10 boys, but as we came over the hill, into Six Mile, a settlement area, squatter settlement area. There were hundreds of people on the road, and normally when a vehicle approaches, the people would separate, but that wasn't happening. They were standing packed on the middle of the road. I looked at Harrison Perham, our farm manager, in the cab of the truck, and I said to him as I was driving, I said, Harrison, look at your rear vision mirror. Make sure if we have to, we can reverse back quickly. He looked, I was looking in my rear vision mirror. He said to me, "It be clear now, you can give me 60, you can go back now, yeah." He was saying it's clear, if you have to head back, you can do it quickly. Just before we had to stop, I was about to bring it from first gear back into reverse. When out of nowhere behind us a police vehicle, lights flashing, sirens sounding, pulled out on the right and went through the crowd, and the crowd just automatically separated. I pulled in behind the police vehicle and followed it through the crowd. The police vehicle took off towards the airport, Jackson's Airport, and we peeled off towards the bank and were able to get our money in safely. As I was returning home in the truck, I said to Harrison, "Did you see where that police vehicle came from?" And he looked, he said, "There was nothing behind our truck. I checked," he said, "there was nothing there at all. It came out of nowhere." We were both convinced that God had sent his angels in the form of the police and the police vehicle to protect his money, his school fee money that the school was so dependent on, to make sure it got to the bank safely. As you think about that, reflect that we have a God who is still active today, just as active today as in Bible times. God bless you.
