It's all too often said that there are no miracles performed these days. Well, I'd like to challenge this idea with my story of a way of escape. Welcome to Miracles in the 21st Century. I'm Helen Christian. I have a Bible promise that has carried me through many hard times, and I'd like to share it with you. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, No temptation has overtaken you except that which is common to man. But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape that you may be able to bear it. Many years ago, I had 4 young children aged between 1 and 6. I had a wayward husband. who was sleeping around with some of my friends and others. And this promise kept me going against all the pain and the shame of what was happening. He was unfaithful to me. He didn't really look after us. He would go out and not come back until midnight or Anywhere between midnight or 3 in the morning. No explanations. He would sometimes be gone all weekend. And usually the thought of the children and the promise that I read in the Bible made me snap out of any deep depression or lethargy. But this particular night, the pain was really bad. It was my birthday and he'd gone out again. Now this had been happening for quite a number of years now, and usually having the promise kept me going and having the children to look after, because he said if anything happened to me, the children would have to go into an orphanage. It just kept me going. But this night, it was my birthday. The pain was just too strong. Years ago, my husband had been to a psychiatrist while he was at Avondale College because he had come home one night and said that he had a tumor, brain tumor, and that he didn't have long to live. And that was a bit of a tragedy for our family because I had 3 little boys. And then when the college wanted him to be anointed, he was anointed, and then he went to visit his doctor again, and lo and behold, the tumor was gone. So the college wanted some evidence before they published this amazing miracle. only to find that there was no tumor, there was no doctor, there were no X-rays. And at that time, he was put under a psychiatrist, and he prescribed some tablets that kept him sleeping for anything, 5 to 8 hours. Well, I still had a bottle with 6 or 8 of these pills. And I'd been crying for a couple of hours. And it was now 9:30 at night. And no matter what, I usually snapped out of it. But this night I couldn't snap out of it. I just wanted the pain to stop. I just couldn't take it anymore. So 9:30 at night, I decided I'm going to end it all. So I went out to get a glass of water in the kitchen, and as I was going through the lounge room, I turned the light on. And at that moment, there was a knock on the door. Well, I'd turned the light on, so I felt I had to go and open the door, and there— Who was it? was my friend Vera Bennett with a birthday cake in her hand and she said, Helen, I felt so impressed to come and bring you your birthday cake tonight. So I asked her to come in, she could see that I was very distressed and we sat and talked and I told her what I was going to do and how she had come at the very moment of my no-return point. And God's promise was true that night. Everything over the years had just piled up and it had gotten too hard, and she turned up because God impressed her to come and bring me a birthday cake at 9:30 at night. God is so good. He has been so good to me, and I'm ever grateful for what He did for me that night.
